Go Ahead… Take the First Step

A persistent nagging in the deep recesses of your brain reminds you that nothing has been done to update your windows. Have they been bare forever? Maybe you are still showcasing your 60’s retro style treatments. Or perhaps you collected an assortment of fabric samples, became more befuddled, and threw them aside to think about later.

Did you know that many people choose to abandon putting up window treatments because they are too indecisive or unsure of a suitable look for their space?

Whatever the reason, you are not alone! Making window treatments doesn’t have to be a complicated, pull-your-hair-out task. You’ve already taken the first step by reading this blog post. Allow Mill Agent’s expert staff to eliminate the anxiety and help you design window treatments that suit your personal style.

Let’s get started.

Working with Small Spaces

Recently, a customer moved into a new home. Working with limited living space, she wanted to soften and enhance three small windows with custom window treatments. Notice the transformation!

Living Room

For window décor, the living room window displayed bland, neutral blinds.

Custom back tab draperies were hung with a decorative rod for open/close functionality. The tabs were sewn at the top of the drapery backside, resulting in beautifully hung pleats.

Kitchen

The adjacent kitchen area had a small, solitary window inserted between two cabinet doors and needed a cozy look.

Blending room designs, we added a King Windsor valance at the top of the window. Though some may think this was a difficult project to tackle, it was fairly easy to sew. We started with a flat, lined rectangle, attached to a 1 x 4 board. At evenly spaced intervals, notice the bells located in between the swags. At the lower edge, decorative cording provides further accent while supporting the curves of the bells and swags. A contrasting fabric was added, suggestively peeking from inside of each bell along with a 2” banded bottom.

Back Kitchen Door

Located on the same wall, a door leading to the backyard needed some attention.

Mill Agent attached a custom, flat Roman shade to balance out the area. Roman shades are constructed with soft horizontal folds, adding interest and dimension. The shade is attached to a mounting board and can be installed as an inside/outside mount. We chose an outside mount along with a rolleze system (a mechanism used for easy operation) along with a continuous beaded chain.

Our customer was thrilled with the results (and didn’t have to break the bank for this updated look). For more information regarding the use of a rolleze system, contact us. Please tell us what future blog posts you want to see!
